
Pat Thomas
Started playing at the age of 8, began playing jazz at 16 after seeing Oscar
Peterson on TV. In 1988 Pat was awarded a Arts Council Jazz Bursuary to write
3 new electro-accoustic compositions for his ten piece ensemble Monads, a performance
was given at the Outside-In festival in 1989. In 1990 he took part in Company
Week playing with Phil Wachsman, Henry Kaiser, Eugene Chadbourne, Louis Moholo
etc. In 1991 he took part in Company Week playing with Paul Lovens, John Zorn,
Buckethead etc. Pat also took part in the first international symposium for
free improvisation in Bremen with Derek Bailey.
Has worked in a duo with Lol Coxhill since 1990, has a long standing duo with
Mark Sanders since 1988 and a duo with Steve Noble 1997. Has worked with Derek
Bailey since 1990 and currently in a trio with Bailey and Steve Noble on turntables
called AND. Pat Thomas has also worked with Tony Oxley since 1992 in Quartet,
the Angular Apron and the Celebration Orchestra.
He formed the Quartet SCATTER in 1992 (Phil Minton, Roger Turner, Dave Tucker)
taking part in Arts Council Tours of England in 1993 and 1997. Currently a member
of Eugene Chadbourne`s Hellington Country, Orphy Robinson`s Code5 , Lunge, Rowland
Sutherland`s London Arts Collective and Tim Hill`s Pandemonium Band.
Festivals include Uncool Festival, Poschiavo, Switzerland with Scatter, Berlin
Jazz Festival with Tony Oxley`s Celebration Orchestra, Music Protocol 97 Austria
with AND, and Taktlos 97 and Nickelsdorf Konfrontationen 99 with Hellington
Country. Total Music Festival 99 with Tony Oxley Quartet (Phil Wachsman, Matt
Wand).
